Prof. Arpan K. Kar is Amar S Gupta Chair Professor in Information Systems in the Department of Management Studies, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, India. Within IIT Delhi, he shares a Joint Faculty Appointment in the Yardi School of Artificial Intelligence. Also he has an associate faculty appointment in the Bharti School of Telecom and Centre for Excellence in Cyber Systems and Information Assurance. His research interests are in the interface of data science, digital transformation, internet ecosystems, social media and ICT-based public policy. He has authored over 200 peer reviewed articles and edited 12 research monographs. As of 2023, his research has been cited over 12,000 times as per Google Scholar. He has an H Index of 50 and I-10 index over 140. He is the Chair of Corporate Relations and member of the Board of Academic Programme and Institute of Eminence committees within IIT Delhi, and also serves on the board / expert committees of other organizations as well.

Prof. Arpan Kar is the founding Editor in Chief of International Journal of Information Management Data Insights, a Scopus Q1 journal published by Elsevier, the companion journal of International Journal of Information Management. He has handled guest editorship in leading journals like Journal of the Association for Information Systems (ABDC A*, SSB), Decision Support Systems (ABDC A*, SSB), Industrial Marketing Management (ABDC A*), International Journal of Information Management (ABDC A*), Information Systems Frontiers (ABDC A) and Australasian Journal of Information Systems (ABDC A). Further he is an an Associate Editor of Internatioal Journal of Information Management(ABDC A*), Communications of the Association for Information Systems (ABDC A), Journal of Computer Information Systems (ABDC A), Global Journal of Flexible Systems Management (ABDC A) and International Journal of Electronic Government Research. He is on the Editorial Board of journals like Journal of Business Research, Government Information Quarterly, International Journal of Information Management, Journal of Global Information Management and Decision Support Systems. He has served as Associate Editor,  Track Chair  and Conference Chair in reputed conferences like IFIP Working Group 6.11 and 8.6, ICIS, PACIS, ECIS conferences. In the past, he has been an Associate Editor for more journals like Journal of Public Affairs, Sage Open, etc.

Out of his 200+ publications, he has published over 75 articles in very reputed journals (ABDC A, ABS 3 and Impact Factor Q1) like International Journal of Information Management, Industrial Marketing Management, Technovation, Decision Support Systems, IEEE Transactions in Engineering Management, Information Systems Frontiers,  Information Technology and People, European Journal of Marketing, Technological Forecasting and Social Change, Government Information Quarterly, Journal of Computer Information Systems, Annals of Operations Research, Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, Journal of Enterprise Information Management, Enterprise Information Systems, Decision Analysis, Journal of Global Information Management, etc. Out of these, 14 published articles are in ABDC A* ranked journals which includes research papers and editorials.

Prof. Kar has received reviewing excellence awards from multiple reputed journals like Information and Management, Government Information Quarterly, International Journal of Information Management, Land Use Policy, Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services,  etc. He has undertaken over 40 research, consultancy and training projects from organizations like BASF, PWC, Fidelity, EY, Facebook, CIPPEC, BitGrit and Ministries under Government of India (MEITY, DST, MOTA, MoT, DRDO, MHRD, etc).

He has received numerous recognitions for his research contributions from reputed organizations like 3 International Federation of Information Processing Best Paper Awards, Tata Consultancy Services Research Award, Project Management Institute Young Research Scholar Award, Association of Indian Management Schools Faculty Research Award, IIT Delhi Teaching Excellence Award, Basant Kumar Birla Distinguished Researcher Award (BimTech), Association of Computing Machinery ICEGOV Best Research Paper Award, NIT Goa Research Paper Award, and Clarivate Analytics Research Excellence Award (Web of Science).

Education wise, he completed his Graduation (B.Engg.) from Jadavpur University (Gold medalist) and Masters/Doctorate (Fellow) from XLRI Jamshedpur. Prior to joining IIT Delhi, he has worked for IIM Rohtak, IBM Research and Cognizant.
